GOALS OF THE PROJECT

The main objective of the bilateral cooperation project is to develop control strategies that combine the advantages of fractional control in terms of controller robustness and the benefits of distributed, fault-tolerant systems. The project will study resilient control strategies for distributed embedded systems with the goal of overcoming the manifestation of errors due to faults at the physical or communication layers. A specific objective will be to apply such techniques to the topic of distillation, particularly in terms of simplifying the frequency domain approach for fractional-order controller design and reducing the controller parameters computation time or the time required for optimizing solutions. The new control strategies proposed in this project will be embedded in a software program for computing specific fractional order robust controllers for distillation plants, and similar multivariable dead time processes.
